ABOUT ME

Marie-Louhere...

Pronouns: She/Her

Since a young age, I have been passionate about supporting those around me. Working within NHS Talking Therapies since 2015 & as an Assistant Psychologist prior to this, has given me the opportunity to use evidence-based approaches like CBT & more recently, EMDR, to support individuals on their journey toward self-discovery, self-awareness & personal growth. Helping them move toward a life that reflects their values & brings them joy.
Alongside my profession, my own lived experience of mental health difficulties & accessing therapy has given me valuable insight into both the barriers that can affect engagement & the transformative impact therapy can have. This perspective continues to shape my practice with compassion, understanding & a deep respect for each person’s unique journey.

5 Areas Model

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT is a type of talking therapy that helps us understand how our thoughts, feelings, physical sensations & behaviours are all connected - & how, when we’re struggling, these can become linked in unhelpful or negative ways.

CBT encourages us to be curious about our negative thoughts, gently questioning how true or helpful they really are. By doing this, we can change how we feel emotionally & physically & how we respond or act, leading to more positive outcomes.

Unlike traditional counselling, which focuses more on talking through emotions and experiences, CBT is a structured, goal-focused & problem-solving approach. It involves learning practical techniques to break the cycles we get stuck in, with an expectation that these tools are practised between sessions.

Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is a type of therapy that helps us process & recover from traumatic or upsetting experiences.
It works by triggering the brain’s natural healing process, helping to “unstick” difficult memories & move them from the present into the past - where they belong. This helps the brain time-stamp the experience properly, reducing the emotional distress that is still attached.
While thinking about the memory, you’ll use something called bilateral stimulation - such as eye movements or tapping - to trigger the brains natural processing & reprocess the memory in a way that feels less intense & more manageable.
EMDR doesn’t erase the memory, but it can reduce the emotional charge & help you see things from a new perspective - making it easier to move forward & reclaim your life.
